Wet Dog!

It’s coming to that time of year……wet dog!!!

It is sometimes tempting to leave your dog's coat long for the winter, thinking that they need the extra hair to keep them warm, but this is not necessarily the right thing.

Long coats are high maintenance - they take longer to dry, tangle more easily, and collect debris. Your furry friend will often return from a walk wet and with mud, leaves etc clinging to the coat, and those that live in the campo –well that is the norm for the winter! They will need to get dry and warm in order to be comfy which is a challenge for a long coat.

Introducing grooming to fearful dogs

I have been banging on a bit lately about how important it is to introduce grooming properly to a dog and how especially with the 'fragile' ones, one step wrong can put you a million steps back in getting them to accept grooming.

Most groomers work out of a salon environment only and don't have the facilities that we are lucky enough to have here but it is soooooooo important to not push the dogs that are displaying fear - please remember that the majority of cases that show aggression is through them being scared.

Halloween Party

What a fandabidozy weekend!

Saturday we held our Halloween party and boy what a night!  Thank you to every single one of you - you all made such a fantastic effort with your costumes – don’t think I have ever been to a fancy dress party with such great outfits!  I am also still amazed nobody brought their dogs after some of the queries we got during the week before!!  The Doghouse team let their hair down in style also…..well, Nando doesn’t remember much after 11pm and Sam didn’t remember walking IN the door nevermind out again!

What a weekend!

The ever committed Ann felt she could no longer let Nando loose again on her customers so bravely fought the snot to come back to work - & fantastic that she did too because Digger and Lily both learnt to turn on lights on Saturday!!
Sam was getting out of the wet weather gear for a wedding but unfortunately has pulled a ligament in her knee so is on crutches (dresses & crutches - a new fashion theme!) so Nando had other classes to teach - & push him to the limits they did! He used every trick in the book this weekend so well done guys for working the human!

Filming & Diggers check up

Today the Doghouse staff (minus the still very poorly Ann) & a few special customers did a little filming session for a chain of vets who have TV’s in their waiting areas and wanted to promote our services!  Great huh?!  We had a good giggle -  many thanks to Taz, Dexter, Diesel & Rosie for their very special parts today!

On the Digger Dog front it’s been 5 days since the big op and the little sausage has been getting lots of extra cuddles and was even allowed on the bed this week by Nando!

He's home!

Digger Dog is home!  The vet called us this evening & said despite him being poorly, he was happy & comfy so he could come home tonight

So, having nicknamed him Frankendog the 2nd, he is happily tucked up in his crate in the living room - prime position in front of the tv, on a cocktail of drugs all ready for topping up in the morning to keep him 'quiet'

His ears do look quite 'urgh' but very tidy and it will look perfect once all healed up nicely and hopefully no more ear problems for the furry guy!

Digger under the knife!!!

Our youngest pup Digger Dog went in to have his big op today - a bilateral & lateral wall reduction on both ears. What on earth is that you may ask! Well being such a hairy beast, he has trouble with his ears due to the amount of hair down the canals and the lack of air flow due to the floppiness of them so in his short 16mth life span he has already had 3 big ear infections that have each taken a long time to clear up.

Digger dog just before his operationLuckily we have a fab vet who has really helped us heaps and although on the last bout Digger suffered a ruptured eardrum (which often don't heal), she managed to not only clear the problem up but also encourage the eardrum to heal which it did!
