It's been another hectic week at Doghouse HQ! On our quest to spread positive reinforcement training across Andalusia we had a new team that were brave enough to spend 5 intensive days working hard to achieve their In The Doghouse Level 1 Instructors Award. We had a variety of people that took their first steps in starting the best career in the world......Dog Training! From a soldier in the Gibraltar Regiment with no previous experience to a Managing Director of one of the most successful property businesses on the coast, we had a right old mix of people. |

Lots has been happening and I haven't had the chance to get on here and let you all know ....so brace yourself! Firstly I wanted to extend a very happy Doghouse welcome to the newest team member, Rich. He has moved over from the not so sunny climbs of Nottingham and joined us in Malaga. Already Rich has passed his Doghouse Instructors award (1 of only 2 people who have passed with distinctions) but way before taking that course we met at a seminar for dog trainers back in the UK. He has a passion for dogs and their behaviour that is only rivaled by Nando and Donnas. |

For those of you that don't already know, a couple of weeks ago I picked up a stray from the side of the road. Now, if I had the funds and the time I would stop for every dog I passed but since I don't, I have had to man up a bit and only stop for those that are not capable of looking after themselves. The reason I stopped for this little girl was she was sitting on the side of the road, a speeding van came round the corner and narrowly missed her but she didn't move, she only cowered waiting for the impact. |

Well a whole year has passed since we touched down in the sunny south coast of Spain and it has been a fantastic year! We thought we would celebrate the anniversary of our arrival, our Christmas do and dish out the first ever awards to our gang the only way we know how.........a party! We set the venue in La Luna restaurant, which is based in Mijas Costa - the most central point for all our customers but people came from far and wide to join us. Those that travelled nearly an hour from Almogia were beaten only by Sarah Hoskyn and Rich Clarke who flew over from the UK for 1 night only! |

Its nearly Christmas and although the Pet lodge is fairly quiet before the xmas madness we have been very busy as always! November has seen a lot of work taking place around the Doghouse and with a new roof being fitted to the house, 3 new extra large kennels being installed in the block, a new toilet area so the dogs can find a suitable spot without being attached to a human (nobody likes being watched), the exercise area being measured up for fencing and buying a new van for drop off and pick ups we hardly had time to stop and catch our breath! |

So much has been going on here at in the Doghouse that I have not had much time at all to get blogging so I'm going to give you a quick run down of what been happening! We have had our new exercise/training area converted and it is over 10 times the size of the original one so any Pet lodge residents will be in for a lovely surprise as soon as it all fenced off! Now we also have the space to be running some more of the hands on type training days and have many planned including Scent day workshop, Trick dog club, K9 First Aid and many others so get ready for a busy winter! |

Well, we have just finished our 7 day intensive course for those that are thinking about working with dogs and boy did we have fun! On Monday morning bright and early a group of people turned up at In The Doghouse with an eager look and the slight awkwardness of meeting a group of strangers for the first time brings, but after a brief introduction I couldn't shut them up (as is always the case with dog lovers) :-) So we set about discussing different points such as where dogs come from and looked at some of the research that has been carried out into raising wolves vs dogs. |

We have been very busy over the past few weeks, the Pet Lodge is fully booked, we have a few different dogs in for residential training, we've been teaching dogs to swim with our new doggy life jackets been getting ready for our latest seminar "The Dog" and managed to raise some money for Animal Care Espana! So, I am fortunate enough to have spent the last few weeks with some amazing dogs, I have Tango the big rescue rottie who stayed with us because he needed exposing to as many different situations as possible, it was like having and 8 week old puppy in the skin of an 18 month old beast! |

We have been very busy up here at the training centre so I thought I'd scribble a few of the more interesting bits down for you. Firstly we still haven't congratulated the guys from Fuengirola who were the very first people outside the UK to have achieved their Dog House Bronze award!!! Followed very closely by the Almogia gang!! This is special because we have now improved our award scheme, it is based on the progression of having a happy, well behaved dog. We have taken elements from all aspects of dog training to create one of the most impressive curriculum to put your dog through. |
