What an amazing couple of days!
What started out as a nightmare with a so called dog trainer leaving his dogs at the pet lodge is turning in to a much rosier situation.
Finally I have received confirmation that Dakota and Chancer are needing new homes. We knew that he had decided to leave them but in the back of my mind I didn't want to let them go, what if I'm making a mistake, what if there is a legitimate reason for all this.
I now have it from his family (who were also lied too) that he has abandoned the dogs.
Thats the bad news...........the good news is that we had a lovely couple come up to see if Dakota would be suitable to join there family. Dakota was very in to them and we can only hope they like him as much. They have very sensibly decided to take a few days before making what is a very important decision. He is a nice dog and deserves a better home than he has had.
Chancer is still up for grabs so if you're interested then click his cheeky little face to check out our facebook page.
On an even better note, me and Donna attended a charity event for Animals In Need the other night and we sat next to a lovely family, then we started talking dog! I explained that we run doghouse and that included everything from pet dog lessons to 121 behavioural consultations.
Tears were shed as they explained that their cocker had bitten the father that evening and again on a couple of other occasions, so they did what they thought was inevitable and had booked an appointment for the vet to come to the house the next morning and have the dog put to sleep.
After spending a while talking about it we decided the best thing to do was for me to visit their house in Alora, Spain and see if there was something else that could be done.
What did I find........he was the loveliest little dog, very sweet and adored the father!!! But when he got a toy he turned in to the demon dog from hell!
He had been passed from home to home more than likely because of this issue and he had learnt that guarding his resources was the most important thing to him. So we put a plan of action together using clicker training methods to help the dog to learn more appropriate behaviours.
He didn't restrict himself to object guarding, oh no, this little fella was guarding locations, toys, food and people!!
I left the house with everyone feeling more confident and that there was a light at the end of the tunnel. The dog was so smart it may be very short tunnel. I just feel lucky to have met them.
Although it may seem different on TV, rehabilitation is a process not an event!
