February 2011

Great few days!

What an amazing couple of days!

What started out as a nightmare with a so called dog trainer leaving his dogs at the pet lodge is turning in to a much rosier situation.

Finally I have received confirmation that Dakota and Chancer are needing new homes. We knew that he had decided to leave them but in the back of my mind I didn't want to let them go, what if I'm making a mistake, what if there is a legitimate reason for all this.

I now have it from his family (who were also lied too) that he has abandoned the dogs.

A disgrace!!!

There is an increasing fashion for those people that live abroad and have a pet, to put the dog in to kennels and go on holiday..........for good!

I find it difficult enough to understand how people can do this, (it usually means they haven't invested enough time in their dog to have bonded properly). However, a so called dog trainer to leave his dogs that have worked with him as a stooge dogs been reliable companions and never thought about dumping his sorry backside, is a disgrace.

Gassing!

I received an email that is not a nice story but one that does need to be heard.

I will copy and pate the whole thing below, read with caution :-(

Did you know that in Andalucia it is now law that all state owned dog shelters, which are now called ‘killing stations’ by the way, are gassing cats and dogs because they are overwhelmed and cannot afford injections to put them down humanely? The innocent animals die of a long painful death. Please sign this petition and get the Spanish Government to stop this.

We are what we eat

"You are what you eat" - Thats what they say and the same applies to dogs. The only difference is we can choose to poison our bodies with junk food but dogs can't, they rely on us to make the right choices for them.

More and more people seem to be adversely affected by intolerances to certain foods – and some, like nut allergies, can even be fatal. You'll know exactly what I'm talking about if you have stood close to me after too much milk!
However, few owners realise that their dog’s behaviour could be adversely affected by the food they are providing.

Seperation anxiety or just a bored dog?

More often than not, people come to me saying that their dog suffers from separation anxiety and usually what we find out is that the dog is having its own game of separation fun!

A lot of "problem behaviours" are actually normal dog behaviours for instance I visited a lady in Puerto Banus last week who claimed her dog had suffered horribly from separation anxiety. I asked her how she knew this and it turns out a "dog listener" claimed that it was all down to her not being the Alpha male of her pack (I'm not going to start on that!
